April’s Corner

It’s hard to believe that winter is almost over. The snow is beginning to melt at the lower elevations, and soon flowers will be blooming, rivers will be running, and the wildlife will be out again in full force. I have already spotted some deer, elk, foxes, and even a skunk.
The horses are getting very restless. They know that when the snow begins to melt it’s time to go to work again and judging by the eager way they walk up to greet me whenever I go out into the pasture I would say that they are all excited by the prospect.
At the Ranch we have embarked on a major cosmetic uplift.  We are busy scheduling new carpet installation for several of our cabins and we have just ordered the new vanities and countertops for many of the bathrooms. The summer is coming quickly and our goal is to have all of our upgrades and improvements done before you arrive.

Coming this summer (2008)
We are thrilled to add several new activities to our ranch line-up this summer...

 Star Gazing

aWe have purchased a brand new, state-of-the-art, telescope that will be ready to use when you arrive. A stargazing night will be held every week during the season, with extraordinary real time views of space transmitted to a large outdoor screen for everyone’s simultaneous pleasure. This picture is one example of the night sky’s wonders available for you to see.

Movie Night
A western vacation wouldn’t be complete without a night with John Wayne. Sit out under the stars with us and enjoy an old western movie on the big screen. And what movie would be complete without popcorn? Have as much or as little as you like from our old-fashioned popcorn machine

Indian Village

Construction of our new Indian Village will begin soon to allow completion prior to the season’s opening in June. Just outside the cabin area will be 3 authentic Native American tipis surrounding a centrally located fire pit.  Built in benches will allow you to comfortably relax and enjoy all the events taking place there: the kid’s campout, a family marshmallow roast, an evening enjoying the country sounds of a local cowboy singer, and much more. You and your family also have the opportunity to spend the night in one of these tipis; however space is limited so please let us know of your interest when you book your reservation. This picture is of 3 tipis that are similar to the ones we will be constructing.

Archery
We have decided to take advantage of some of the open space around the ranch to put in an archery range for your enjoyment and entertainment. Anyone can participate. We have bows for kids and adults and a variety of target distances to challenge even the best archer.

Calf Branding
aa

All the kids that come to Lake Mancos Ranch this summer will get the opportunity to participate in our calf “branding” demonstration. Watch as our cowboys and cowgirls separate the calves from the herd, rope them, and then get to assist in “branding” them. This is exactly what is done at the big working cattle ranches all over the west and we are excited to give you the chance to participate
The” branding” will be done with paint-coated branding irons.

Summer 2007 Photo Album

These are a few favorite pictures from the 2007 family season. They were all contributed by our staff members and guests. If you have any favorite pictures from Lake Mancos Ranch and you would like to contribute them for consideration in our next newsletter please email them to us.  We would love to see them

Your Recommendations

We have read through all of the comment cards from last season and are busy making plans to incorporate some of your ideas. There will be new carpeting and furniture in many of our cabins and new vanities in many of the bathrooms complete with more counter space and drawers with room for everything you bring with you. We are constantly trying to improve our ranch facilities in order to give you the best vacation possible and we welcome any feedback you give us.

For Your Safety

In addition to all of the cabin updates and improvements we are making, we are also updating and improving our first aid capabilities. Two of the ranch’s owners are doctors and we have been seeking their advice for ways to better equip ourselves for an emergency situation should one arise. The new owners have purchased a brand new defibrillator and also purchased new First Aid kits for all wranglers to carry with them on your rides. Most of our staff members will be participating in a CPR/First Aid class in May so they will be trained on how to use all of the First Aid supplies and the proper way to handle any situation that could happen at the ranch or on the trail.

Last Chance!

Our New Owner’s Special is ending on May 15, 2008. If you would like to experience all that Lake Mancos Ranch has to offer its guests at our discounted rates please call and make your reservation today. We would love to have the chance to meet you and give your family the most memorable vacation you have ever had

Library Fundraiser

In the March edition of Ranch Ramblings I mentioned that the new ranch owners were looking for ways to become increasingly involved in our local community. I am happy to report that we are now making plans for our 1st Annual Lake Mancos Ranch Community Fundraiser to take place on Memorial Day weekend. This year’s beneficiary will be the Mancos Community Library. The population of Mancos has outgrown the current library space. A new library building is going to be constructed and we are very glad to be able to contribute to the Mancos Library’s Building Fund in this way. We will be contributing the food and the use of the Lake Mancos Ranch facilities.  The Friends of Mancos Public Library and the library staff, with cooperation and help from the Lake Mancos Ranch staff, will be hosting. We are thrilled to involve ourselves in the town of Mancos’ growth
